Namitha was born and raised in Mumbai. Her full name is Namitha Kapoor. She is a Punjabi. Raised in a business family, Namitha always aspired to become an actress ever since she was a small kid. She was first introduced into the film industry by Malayalam film director Siddhique. She attained instant stardom following the success of the Tamil version of the movie ‘Engal Anna’ opposite Tamil superstar Vijayakanth. She has acted in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi films.
Miss India contest brought Namitha to the Telugu film industry. After entering Tollywood, she
immediately grabbed the attention of Telugu film lovers with Sontam and Gemini though the films did not fare well in the box office. She acted in the Hindi film named Love Ke Chakker Mein . Namitha appeared in an English film named Maya( 2006) directed by Eric Manning.
